Thought of the week - Thanksgiving Stats!

Listen to these statistics announced pre-Thanksgiving.... Estimate sales for this coming holiday season will hit 1 Trillion dollars and 40% of it will be done on mobile devices!! I don't even know how to write this number. And I always think that women my age and older prefer to work on a PC when shopping online. I am wrong. Many of them make their purchases on their phones or tablets. Make sure your online store is user friendly on mobile devices! Americans are big consumers. Which is great because it means there is room for everyone in this country. A lot of products and enough shoppers. I wish us all a very healthy business this coming holiday season! Make sure...

Thought of the week - Thanksgiving

I was not aware of the phrase Friendsgiving until this year. Suddenly everyone is having one! Since I don't have my biological family with me in NY I always celebrated with friends. On the day of, a week before, sometimes with turkey sometimes not. Living in NY for the last 27 years taught me how important friends are. They become your family when you are a foreigner. I am so thankful to NYC for introducing me to the most vibrant, diverse, kind community that has been a family to me and my children all these years. Thought of the week - Jackie

10 years ago I opened Rootchi, a retail store on the upper west side of Manhattan, the neighborhood where I live. I wanted to see what it meant to be a retailer. (And oh boy I saw!!) It was a good journey that ended last Thursday. As we finished out our 10 year lease. It is not easy to be a good retailer. You really have to know what you are doing: Who you are buying for, markup, merchandising, selling!!!, customer service, marketing and management. And more than anything, every retail store needs a Jackie. Thank you Jackie for many years of loyalty, motivation, energy, creativity, efficiency and growth. One can't ask for anything more. Your ability to see a...

Thought of the week - Professionals

I used to hire professional help through friends or people that "fell in my lap" who spoke Hebrew and it was comfortable; or just because the price was right and laziness was on my side. How did it all work out? I ended up with an "out of status" visa situation and was not able to leave the US for 5 years. My then lawyer thought it was OK to file a renewal without having the right conditions for approval. Then my dermatologist didn't think the black mark on my wrist was a problem. But for some reason I insisted on having it removed only to find out it was melanoma; thankfully in a very early stage. My accountant opened...

Thought of the week - mornings

I'm not a morning person. Mornings are always a bit grey and my first thoughts tend to revolve around life, death and dying. My sister suggested to try and change that as part of my mindful practice. So I started to add a small smile when I wake up. A forced little smile that I noticed helped in changing my attitude towards the world and the new day. It really works! How simple to do and so effective. What is your first thought when you wake up every morning? Happy Wednesday, Yael My Sister and I
