Thought of the week - Mary Oliver

I never read poetry. I always feel like the words are above me and I don’t really understand what the poem is trying to say. That is, until I came across Mary Oliver, an American poet who passed away in January. Here are some excerpts from one of the many poems I truly connected with and was inspired by this past weekend, it’s called "The Summer Day". Who made the world? Who made the swan, and the black bear? Who made the grasshopper? This grasshopper, I mean - The one who has flung herself out of the grass, the one who is eating sugar of my hand, Who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down- .......... I don’t know exactly what a prayer is. I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down into the grass ....... Tell me, what else should I have done? Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? - Mary Oliver So what is it really that we each plan to do with this one precious life? Happy Week, Yael
